I finished school. Was it worth it?

I felt stuck at a sort of dead-end job in Utah. I was unsatisfied with the type of work I was doing. I felt underutilized. And there were no real avenues for advancement outside of getting a different job. Those are sometimes the perils of stability and working for a state government agency. I don’t know how it is in other states, but I imagine it’s similar in most places. That doesn’t mean I was unappreciative of my job. I loved the stability. I loved knowing what to expect from day to day. But that also contributed to monotony. And, honestly, I wasn’t earning enough m

Rest of Nepal – #3

I milked a cow! Well, I helped...a little bit... Day #11 must have been a pretty chill day, because I only have a handful of pictures. That's saying something considering I took well over a thousand pictures in the time we were in Nepal. We hung out around Kalpana's home and ate some food at a relative's house. But the most eventful thing that day was the first thing I did that day, which was to milk the cow. You can see more pictures by clicking on the picture below: Click above to see the other pictures/videos Let me just say that it takes a certa

Rest of Nepal – #2

Kalpana's Grandfather - he's 98 now (97 in this picture). What was really great about this trip was getting to spend time and get to know Kalpana's family. Sometimes you don't realize the things you have in common because languages and cultures are sometimes very different. While we do have different languages and cultures, Kalpana's family has been very accepting of me. This picture above with Kalpana's grandfather is one great example of this. This man was 97 years old in this picture and here he is with his arm around me, accepting me as a part of the family

Rest of Nepal – #1

Something to know about me: I have anxiety and I deal with a little bit of ADD issues. When I set my goal to write about my time in Nepal I was super motivated, because it was an amazing time! But there was so much to write that after three posts I got a bit overwhelmed. So I'm going to go through my pictures and write about what I remember. After out trip to Chitwan National Park we went back to Kalpana's parents' home and counted the money we got from the marriage celebration that they had for us. The people in Nepal, despite not being wealthy, were very generou

Nepal – Day 3 – Chitwan National Park

After mostly sleeping through the New Year celebration, we woke up the next morning, got ready, and met up with Kalpana’s family.  Her aunt who lives in Sauraha made me a breakfast sandwich by toasting some bread (which was like the best store-bought bread I’ve ever had…don’t know why) and putting an egg in between.  That’s not a typical Nepali breakfast from what I could tell, so it was very sweet for her to be so thoughtful and accommodating.  I decided to take a picture of the breakfast.  I’m glad I did because I wouldn’t have even remembered if I ha

Trip to Nepal – Day 2

Traveling from Kathmandu to Chitwan Our second day started early in the morning because the bus we got to go to Chitwan left around 7, i think. We got up around 4:30 or 5 and had to get a taxi (well, an informal taxi. I think everyone knows someone who drives a car as a job and that's who they often call) and then we had to go to a specific part of Kathmandu where the bus stops. It's not really a bus stop, just a place where the bus stops. Here's a picture of where we were standing in the morning: The air quality in Kathmandu is pretty bad, hence the masks. I

Our Trip to Nepal! (with some background info) – Day 1+

So pretty much anyone reading this will know that I am married to someone from Nepal. Her name is from Kalpana and she's been living in the United States for five and a half years. And during that time she's been unable to go back to Nepal to visit her family. Well, she finally got her green card this past summer (2019) and for the first time in so long she was able to visit her family. Kalpana and I have been married since August of 2016 and this was the first time I was able to meet her family in person. Conversations through Facebook messenger aren't quite the s

I’m in school

Yeah, i can't believe i'm in school either. So, in case anyone was interested, here's my educational journey. I was one of the "smart kids" growing up. School was easy. Until it wasn't, starting in middle school. As soon as i found a subject that was boring or challenging i quit trying. I did really horribly in high school for numerous reasons. Didn't plan on going to college immediately. I eventually went on a church mission to Argentina for two years. I was motivated to start my education after i got home. But it took a while for me finally get starte
